Choosing a Deionizer for Your Car Wash

Takeaways

Deionized Water is Crucial

Deionized (DI) water ensures a spotless finish by removing mineral ions that cause water spots and streaks. It is essential for achieving a clean, streak-free result after washing and drying your vehicle.

Discussed Deionizer Systems

  • CR Spotless DIC-20: High-output system providing up to 300 gallons of purified water, perfect for small to medium-sized car washes.
  • On The Go Dual Bed Double Standard Deionizer: Features a dual-tank system for greater efficiency, producing up to twice as much purified water as single-tank systems.
  • Big Boi D-IONIZR1SET (2-Stage Filter System): A compact system with carbon and deionized resin filters, offering a TDS meter for precise...

How I Boosted My Worx Leaf Blower’s Thrust by 20% to Clear Water Off My Car Faster

After testing and tweaking my Worx 40V Power Share TURBINE Cordless Leaf Blower, I discovered how to increase its thrust by up to 21.13%—making it far more effective at removing water droplets from the surface of my car after washing. In this article, I’ll walk you through the simple modifications I made and share key insights that could help you improve your leaf blower’s performance too.

Key Insights:

  • The largest improvement came from 3D-printing a new nozzle, removing the inlet mesh and flow straightener. The 3D-printed nozzle had an exit diameter of 78.5 mm, calculated by taking 92.5% of the Fan Swept Area (FSA). This resulted in a 21.13% thrust increase.
  • Simply removing the OEM plastic nozzle does not improve thrust. In fact, it actually decreases thrust by 10.57%, contrary to some claims you might find online.

Do Magnesium Wheels Only Last 10 Years or 40,000 Miles on the Porsche GT3 RS?
  • 12
  • 0

Key Takeaways

  • Porsche recommends replacing magnesium wheels on the 911 GT3 RS after 10 years or 40,000 miles, whichever comes first.
  • Magnesium wheels, while lightweight and strong, are more prone to material degradation, particularly from corrosion and fatigue.
  • This guideline is part of Porsche's effort to maintain the safety and performance of the vehicle, ensuring that the wheels remain structurally sound even after extended use.
  • While these replacement intervals are recommended by Porsche, it’s important to verify the guidelines with an official source, like your Porsche dealership or service manual.

Introduction: Magnesium Wheels on the Porsche GT3 RS

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS is renowned for its track-ready performance, cutting-edge engineering, and lightweight components. One of the...
Lightweight Bucket Seats: Cleaning Solutions for Carbon Fiber, Alcantara, Leather, and Stitching

The Porsche 991.2 GT3 RS is an iconic performance car, and its interior is a blend of high-performance materials designed to withstand the rigors of motorsport while providing a luxurious yet functional aesthetic. The seats, in particular, feature a combination of carbon fiber backing, Alcantara inserts, and leather inserts, each of which requires specific care and attention when cleaning to maintain both appearance and integrity. In this article, I’ll explore the material properties of each of these surfaces, suitable cleaning agents, and methods for safely and effectively cleaning your GT3 RS seats.

Material Properties and Cleaning Considerations

1. Carbon Fiber Backing

The seat structure of the 991.2 GT3 RS incorporates carbon fiber, a high-strength, lightweight material that is both durable and highly resistant to wear and tear. However, carbon fiber requires...

Finding the Right Wheel Cleaner: Safe for Aluminum, Magnesium, and Carbon Ceramic Brakes

For high-performance car owners, especially those with vehicles equipped with Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes (PCCB), cleaning the wheels presents a unique challenge. While keeping your wheels—typically made of aluminum or magnesium—clean is important for both appearance and performance, it’s equally essential to ensure that your wheel cleaner is safe for the carbon ceramic brake rotors nearby.

In this article, we’ll explore how to choose a wheel cleaner that effectively cleans aluminum and magnesium wheels without risking damage to the Porsche Carbon Ceramic Brakes. We'll also examine Ammo Brute Wheel Soap, a product that claims to be safe for use on vehicles equipped with carbon ceramic brakes, and explain why it might be an ideal choice for your cleaning needs.

Understanding Car Soap Ingredients and Their Impact on PPF Maintenance

Proper care for your vehicle's paint protection film (PPF) relies on selecting the right car soaps, especially those labeled as pH-neutral and free from harsh detergents. To make informed choices, it’s essential to understand the roles of surfactants and detergents in automotive soaps and their potential effects on PPF.

What Are Surfactants and Detergents?

Surfactants

  • Definition: Surfactants (short for surface-active agents) are chemical compounds that reduce the surface tension of water, allowing it to spread and penetrate surfaces more effectively.
  • How They Work:
    • Surfactants have two parts: a hydrophilic (water-attracting) head and a hydrophobic (oil-attracting) tail.
    • This dual nature allows surfactants to bind with water on one end and oils, grease, or dirt on the other, helping lift and wash away contaminants.

I aim to present the results upfront for convenience. If you're interested in delving deeper, you can continue reading for background information.

Conclusions

To protect the Alcantara steering wheel on a 2019 GT3 RS, various gloves made from leather and polyester were tested. The leather gloves proved to be well-made and effective in preserving the steering wheel's condition. However, they were not compatible with the Porsche's touchscreen, which can be inconvenient for everyday use.

Drawing from my experience as a former avid mountain biker, I’ve found that biking gloves offer several advantages over leather gloves. They are typically designed with sweat-wicking properties to keep hands cool, are made from lightweight and comfortable materials, and are often machine washable. Additionally, biking gloves are available in a wide range of designs and are generally cost-effective.

While leather gloves offer...

Conclusions will be presented first to accommodate readers with limited time. For those interested in a deeper dive, the following sections provide background on aeroacoustics and a detailed explanation of the data collection process.

Conclusions

On-road testing effectively identified trends among the evaluated anti-buffeting devices, demonstrating that a commercially available solution, as shown above, successfully reduces interior cabin buffeting in a 2019 Porsche GT3 RS.

To achieve more controlled and precise evaluations, future testing should incorporate wind tunnel experiments and/or computational fluid dynamics (CFD). These methods offer a stable environment and can provide deeper insights into the flow physics affecting the dBA results.

Investigation Overview
