Just picked up a motorsports windshield tear-off kit from Pro Tint for my 991 GT3 RS, and initially I was seriously impressed.

If you’re running a 991 and looking into windshield protection, definitely weigh your options carefully. The concept is great—but details matter. Let me know if you’ve used GlasTec, Racing Optics, or any other systems. I’d love to hear real-world impressions and layering/care tips.
Porsche 991 ('11-'19) Multi-Layer Windshield Tear-Offs
What I Got:
- Molded, pre-fit tear-off kit for 991-generation Porsche (2011–2019)
- Multi-layer laminated film with a pull-tab (in theory—more on that below)
- Install kit included for DIY or pro install
Benefits
- Protects the windshield from rock chips, pitting, and breakage — huge for both track and highway driving
- Multi-layer design allows you to peel off a fresh surface during long events or road trips
- Molded curvature means no distortion or haziness when installed properly
- Stackable for extra durability without sacrificing optical clarity
Where It Fell Short:
As I started the install, a few key issues came up:- The film doesn’t fully cover the windshield—there’s a visible border of exposed glass around the edges. Not ideal if you're aiming for full protection.
- No tear-off tabs were included in my kit, despite the product being described as multi-layer.
- There’s a cutout at the base of the film for the wipers, which I believe will eventually peel.
What’s Next:
I’ve reached out to:- GlasTec in Germany (looks like Manthey Racing might be using them)
- Racing Optics in Arizona
Final Thoughts:
